The Optical Spectroscopic Evolution of V1974 Cygni (nova Cygni 1992)
Received ; accepted – 2 – ABSTRACT Optical observations of nova V1974 Cygni (Cygni 1992), spanning a 4 year period, have been used to study its spectroscopic evolution. The data cover a wavelength range from ∼ 3200 − 8000Å and follows the nebular evolutionary phase of the ejecta. We have modeled the integrated fluxes by means of the photoionization code CLOUDY. The models were run at a fixed ab...
متن کاملOn the Λ Bootis Spectroscopic Binary Hypothesis
Is the proposed spectroscopic binary model able to explain the observed abundance pattern and photometric metallicity indices for the group members? What is the percentage of undetected spectroscopic binary systems? We have used the newest available stellar atmospheres to synthesize 105 hypothetical binary systems in the relevant astrophysical parameter range. These models were used to derive p...
متن کاملA Differential Spectroscopic Analysis of 16 Cygni A and B
We utilize high-resolution, high signal-to-noise spectra to perform a differential analysis of Fe abundances in the common proper-motion pair 16 Cyg A and B. We confirm that both stars are slightly metal-rich compared to the Sun, and we show for the first time that the primary is enhanced in Fe relative to the secondary by a significant amount. We find ∆[Fe/H]= +0.025± 0.009. This tends to supp...
متن کاملSpectroscopic Evidence for Starspots on the Secondary Star of SS Cygni
Cataclysmic variables (CVs) are interacting binary systems where a cool, rapidly rotating secondary star passes material to a white dwarf. If this mass loss is to continue then there must be continuous angular momentum loss from the system. By analogy with the Sun and other cool stars, it has been assumed that magnetic braking is responsible, angular momentum being carried away by an ionised wi...
متن کاملVelocity curve analysis of spectroscopic binary stars EQ Tau, V376 And, V776 Cas, V2377 Oph and V380 Cygni by nonlinear regression
Using measured radial velocity data of five double-lined spectroscopic binary systems EQ Tau, V376 And, V776 Cas, V2377 Oph and V380 Cygni, we find corresponding orbital and spectroscopic elements via the method introduced by Karami & Teimoorinia and Karami & Mohebi. Our numerical results are in good agreement with those obtained by others using more traditional methods.
